UK source hierarchy
We prioritise UK institutional and peer-reviewed sources for every claim:
- NHS.uk · NICE · GMC · CQC — regulatory and public-health authorities.
- BAAPS · BAPRAS · RCS England — UK surgical associations.
- PubMed / NCBI Bookshelf — peer-reviewed literature.
- Government publications (GOV.UK, MHRA).
We do not use US clinics or commercial editorial competitors (Mayo, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, WebMD, Healthline, RealSelf) as primary references. US institutions such as ASPS and ABPS are used only where clearly labelled as international comparison — not as UK guidance.
Four-domain review panel
Cosmetic surgery covers roughly twenty procedures across several sub-specialties. Rather than claim one clinician is expert in all of them, our review model uses a four-domain GMC-registered panel:
- Plastic Surgery lead — GMC Specialist Register (Plastic Surgery), typically BAAPS/BAPRAS member. Reviews breast, body, gynaecomastia, general safety.
- Facial / oculoplastic lead — Plastic Surgery or ENT/Ophthalmology Specialist Register. Reviews rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, buccal fat, brow/neck lift, otoplasty, lip.
- Gynaecology lead — GMC-registered specialist. Reviews labiaplasty.
- Anaesthetic lead — GMC-registered consultant anaesthetist. Reviews anaesthetic and safety pages.
A page is only marked "medically reviewed by [Name], GMC No. [xxx]" once a named reviewer has read and approved it. Until a domain has a signed reviewer, pages in that domain publish without a named reviewer and without the reviewedBy schema field.
Named reviewers
Named reviewers with GMC numbers, Specialist Register entries and BAAPS/BAPRAS membership links are listed on our reviewers page. Where a page's domain reviewer has not yet been signed, that page publishes without a review claim.
Update cadence
- Cost pages: reviewed and dated at least once a year.
- NHS / ICB pages: updated when national or MHRA/NHS guidance changes.
- Safety (BII, BIA-ALCL): updated when MHRA or specialty-body guidance changes.
- All pages: reviewed on a rolling schedule, with the Last reviewed date shown on the article.
Corrections policy
Factual errors are corrected within 5 working days of a substantiated report. Significant corrections that would change a reader's decision include a dated note at the top of the affected page describing what changed and when. Non-substantive changes (typography, style) don't get notes.
What we don't do
- Rank clinics or individual surgeons.
- Publish celebrity speculation or "guess-the-surgery" content.
- Run before/after galleries or fabricated patient photographs.
- Guarantee NHS or insurance outcomes.
- Give legal or financial advice.
- Link to any other cosmetic-surgery property.
